Hello All you Lovely People, and Welcome to the latest edition of our Newsletter.
We continue to enjoy the ministry of Kelvin and his wife Jean, and they said ‘I don’t have anything to add to a newsletter other than my thanks for the support and help of everyone in the Lanzarote churches, they have made my wife Jean & I really welcome and although we’re only in week two of our stay we are blessed to know them.
How nice is that!
You all know that we are in the process of trying to appoint a new permanent Chaplain, well all we are able to say at the moment is things are progressing positively!
There are plenty of things coming up over the next couple of months, and here are details of some of them.
The next ‘Friends who lunch’ – (That is, some people from church, plus anyone who would like to join us) is on Wednesday 2nd September, 1.30pm at Rustica in Playa Blanca. Last time we were there it was delicious, and great value, and You would be very welcome.
After the success of her last one, Jean Fullerton will be giving another talk, again at the Fondeadero on Saturday 19th September at 7.30 pm. This time it will be about Life and Times of the People of the East End during the war years. She is very personable and knowledgeable on the subject and this promises to be a good night.
At the end of September we bid farewell to Rev Kelvin and Jean, and we welcome the return of Rev William Mounsey who will be here in time for Harvest Thanksgiving on Sunday 4th October, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, at both of our churches.
Rather than bring our own vegetable produce, this year again coloured envelopes will be available, and people can make donations, from which we can buy Chicken, Fish and Seasonal Vegetables for the charity Calor Y café which we support. This way they get what they need.
On Sunday 18th October we shall be keeping the Feast of St Luke the Evangelist. A wonderful day during which we will hear this Collect:
Almighty God,
you called Luke the physician,
whose praise is in the gospel,
to be an evangelist and physician of the soul:
by the grace of the Spirit and through the wholesome medicine of the gospel,
give your Church the same love and power to heal; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
A big day for us will be Saturday 31st October, when we will be welcoming Bishop Andrew as he does a tour of the Canary Islands. This is a great opportunity for us, so please keep the day free, and come along if you can. There will be a meeting of the Chaplaincy Council and the Bishop at 11.30, then 13.00 Lunchtime social occasion for Council plus congregation members. There will be more details soon, but it is really good that we have his undivided attention for the day until he leaves at 3pm for Tenerife. Our Lead Pastoral Chaplain Fr Marcus will be back with us by then.
Looking ahead we will be keeping All Saints Day on Sunday 1st November. This will include Prayers for All Souls, so if you have the names of anyone you would like remembered, please let Fr Marcus have them in plenty of time.
Tuesday 3rd November at 2.0pm we have Church Council
Remembrance Sunday is 8th November in both Churches.
Christmas Fayre is at Hankey Pankys. Montaña Tropical P de C on 19th December from 2.00pm We welcome individual traders to rent a table we welcome people to help and donations for Tombola and bric a brac, but at the moment not books! Thank you.
As you know we are keen to welcome a new permanent Chaplain in the not too distant future. As I mentioned earlier, things are progressing positively, but please keep the process in your prayers.
We all experienced the extremely wet winter and spring, and this has resulted in some necessary repairs and repainting for Chaplaincy house. The costs involved in the recruitment process mean our funds are running low, so if anybody feels they would like to make a donation, however much, it would be really appreciated. Bless you.

Fr Marcus, our Pastoral Lead Locum Chaplain is currently off the Island, but he is still available to us all via email [email protected]
He and Sandra are planning to walk the Camino de Santiago from 27th August. They will start at St Jean Pied de Port and hope to complete the 800kms in about 6 weeks.
